St. Anthony of Padua: The Mission of Preaching the Gospel

Known as a brilliant preacher and teacher, St. Anthony (1195–1231) used words to bring souls to Christ. Yet his preaching was more than eloquence — it was born from a heart deeply united to Jesus.

His mission was grounded in Scripture and charity. Legends say that even fish gathered to hear him speak when people would not listen — a reminder that creation itself responds to the Word of God. St. Anthony’s compassion for the poor and his tireless search for the lost reveal that evangelization is not about winning arguments, but winning hearts.

In June, as we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Anthony calls us to speak truth with tenderness, to live the Gospel so convincingly that our lives become sermons of love.
